Understanding Glasgow's Health: local to international perspectives
This programme of work builds on what was previously known as the ‘observatory function’ of GCPH. It seeks to develop relevant and meaningful health intelligence to strengthen our understanding of health processes, patterning of health inequality, emergent issues and health related trends in Glasgow and the wider region.
Aims
- To improve understanding of health inequality in Glasgow and in comparison to other UK and European cities and regions.
- To develop innovative approaches to presenting health-related information and seek to use health intelligence to influence national policy, local government strategy, public health reports, academic teaching and more.
- To develop evidence and insights through new research and the exploration of new data sets.
Understanding Glasgow
The Understanding Glasgow website launched in January 2011. Part of the Glasgow Indicators Project, it is the result of collaborative efforts between the city's main public agencies, pulling together information from a range of sources. The site provides new insights and highlights some striking and surprising statistics about Scotland’s largest city in an engaging and accessible way. Further work and development is planned for 2011, including a parallel set of childrens' indicators. For more information, visit the Understanding Glasgow site.
